"Metal Box" is the second album by Public Image Ltd, released in 1979 by Virgin Records in a special package consisting a metal box with the vinyl album, booklet, pics, etc. It was reissued as "Second Edition" in 1980 as a "normal" vinyl album (without box). The album showed a radical departure from PIL's relatively conventional debut First Issue, released in 1978, with the band moving into a more avant-garde sound, characterised by singer John Lydon's cryptic vocals, Jah Wobble's propulsive dub reggae-inspired basslines, and a unique, "metallic" guitar sound, made from guitarist Keith Levene playing Veleno guitars which are made entirely of aluminium. Metal Box is widely regarded as a landmark of post-punk and experimental rock. In 2003, the album was ranked number 469 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Public Image Limited (P.i.L.) are an english post-punk band formed by vocalist John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten), guitarist Keith Levene and bassist Jah Wobble, with frequent subsequent personnel changes. Lydon is the sole constant member of the band.    John Lydon emerged after the break-up of the Sex Pistols with PiL's "First Issue" (1978). His new band had a more experimental sound: Wobble's "droning, slow-tempo, bass-heavy noise rock, overlaid by Lydon's distinctive, vituperative rant".  Their early work is often regarded as some of the most challenging and innovative music of the post-punk era. Their 1979 album "Metal Box" was ranked number 469 on Rolling Stone magazine's 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The NME described P.i.L. as "arguably the first post-rock group".  1980 saw their "second issue" ("metal box") and also the release of PiL's first live album, "Paris au Printemps" – also the group's last album featuring Jah Wobble (celebrity in the reggae / dub underground scene). On this release's album sleeve, the band's name and all of the track titles were translated into french. The album cover was a painting by John Lydon depicting himself, Keith Levene and Jeannette Lee.

"The Flowers of Romance" is the third studio album by English experimental rock band Public Image Ltd. It was released on 10 April 1981, through record label Virgin records. The album is largely centred on percussion and Levene has described it as "probably [...] the least commercial record ever delivered to a [record] company. Occasional drummer Martin Atkins played on 3 songs, while band members Levene and John Lydon handled percussion duties on the other tracks. One, "Under the House", actually has both Levene and Atkins playing dual drumlines. The prominent, and heavily processed, drum sound was influenced by Peter Gabriel's third album, on which engineer Hugh Padgham had processed Phil Collins' drums. Collins, in turn, was so impressed with the sound on The Flowers of Romance that he hired the album's engineer, Nick Launay, to reproduce the sound for his own projects. Throughout the album, experimental and Musique Concrète sounds, such as amplified wristwatches, reversed piano and televised opera, weave in and out of the mix. Vocalist John Lydon contributed Stroh violin and saxophone (though he was not known to be trained on any particular instrument) and, according to a Rolling Stone article about the album, simply banged on anything handy for percussion, including the face of a banjo on "Phenagen". Keith Levene's innovative guitar style was stretched even further through the use of reversed tapes and trebly distortion, and his synthesisers drone and burble throughout the album. Several songs (for example "Four Enclosed Walls" and "Phenagen") have a Middle Eastern feel. Bass player Jah Wobble had left the group before "The Flowers of Romance" was recorded, so Keith Levene played bass on "Track 8" and "Banging the Door", the only 2 tracks to feature the instrument.

"Live at Rockpalast Berlin"

Live at Rockpalast, 1983 is a simple transfer of PiL performing live on the German television show, but it's of special interest as the concert falls firmly between two albums. The prickly Flowers of Romance was going on two years old and the fast, funky stomp of This Is What You Want...This Is What You Get was yet to come, but pivotal member Keith Levine is already gone with drummer Martin Atkins and, of course, vocalist John Lydon being the only PiL of note in this version. Interesting to hear a particularly bright "(This Is Not A) Love Song" and an almost swinging version of "Bad Life," two points that already make this a better deal than the same era's Live in Tokyo. Add a steely "Anarchy in the U.K." from a project that rarely played it, and the set becomes desirable for PiL fans who don't see Levine's departure as the bitter end. Recorded Live at Rockpalast Zeche Bochum, Germany, October 31st 1983.

Underrated and almost forgot album signed by John Lydon hymself in 1997. The recording keep still few post-punk, dub, reggae and tribal influences or little touches, but it enter openly in the field of the ellectronic music. This is not a "dance music" album at all, but it use a lot or even completly the sources of electronic music, sound and instruments. Then in 1997 had not much succes neither popularity, but the true is the album has quite quality, originality and well writen songs.  After this one Lydon didn't return to the musical scene until late 00's already with PiL band. To mention also the remixed tracks made by famous DJ's such as: Chemical Brothers, Moby, Leftfield and Black Grape. Good job
