"cranked up really high"

Format:  CD
Tracks:  15

In fact this is not really the debut of this band, but a collection of its first singles and EP's recorded in 1977 and released by label "Captain Oi!" in 1995. SLAUGHTER & THE DOGS have always been a band who has mixed punk with other rock'n'roll subgenres such as: glam, pub rock or even hard rock  in for example the album "Shocking" of 1991 (here below also reviewed). They started in 1976 and still active, despite they have recorded very few studio albums. This compilation could be a very good way to know them for those who never has listened to them yet. It includes songs such as "Boston babies" (covered by GBH), "runaway" or "dame to blame" and all its classic punk rock era, until 1980, when they recorded "bite back", still quite punk but also open to other influences such as new wave, power pop and lots of classic rock'n'roll. True said the official debut album was "Do it dog style" made through label Decca in 1978, but in 1995 label "Captain Oi!" made this compilation with songs writen before 1978.

Format:  CD , LP
Tracks:  10
Time:  32 min.
Genre:  rock
Style:         Hard Rock

This is the SLAUGHTER & THE DOGS third studio album since its beggining in 1976 and the true is it has nothing to do to punk rock... but despite this fact, the recording is not bad at all. We are in front of a classic, typical and usual hard rock album late 80's decade. Said this, we could have a bored CD which want to emule the millionaire rock stars... but not. This is just a well done, well written and well produced album with few songs which move between hard rock, rhythm'n'blues and classic rock. The vinyl version had ten songs, meanwhile the CD one had thirteen songs. Since 1980 (when the band recorded "bite back") there was a long discography silence until this work of 1991, eleven years after. Great surprise and very good rock... enjoy it.

"cranked up really high"
Year: 1996
Country:  UK
City:  London
Author:  Stewart Home
Label:  Codex
Format:  book
Pages:  200
Theme:  punk rock history

A lot of ink has been split on the subject of punk rock in recent years, most of it by arty-farty trendies who want to make the music intellectually respectable. Cranked Up Really High is different. It isn't published by a university press and it gives short shrift to the idea that the roots of punk rock can be traced back to 'avant garde' art movements. As well as discussing sixties garage rock and the British, American and Finnish punk scenes, Home devotes whole chapters to deconstructing Riot Grrl, Oil and the sorry saga of nazi bonehead band Skrewdriver. This book champions the super-dumb sleazebag thud of Slaughter & The Dogs, Ramones, Stooges, The Vibrators, The Art Attacks, The Snivelling Shits, The Lurkers, The Queers, Germs, The Child Molesters, The Ants and The Blaggers.
