Brilliant and excellent album. It takes a lot for an album to really shake me around and make me feel ecstatic after listening to it. While it’s a rare occurrence, it’s the reason why I keep writing about music. It’s for the little gems like this that come across my inbox and I sometimes have to wonder, “Am I always going to feel like a child when I listen to music?” The answer is indefinitely “yes”. Vanishing Values is a battle from start to finish. Straightline blends skate-punk with metal and thrash to create that exact, particular feeling you had while playing Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 in middle school while eating Totino’s Pizza Rolls on a Tuesday afternoon. The nostalgia that exists in this album is immediately familiar, but believe me, it’s still fresh and urgently aggressive hardcore punk. Bart’s guitar work is top-notch and keeps the entire record interesting down to the last minute. To be honest, the whole band is solid, and this is most obvious on a track like “Fading Away” which is equally heavy as it is catchy. One of the most lovable tracks on this record is “Unfinished Story” which will be an instant hit with anyone who loves older Less Than Jake tracks. I’m most curious to hear how these two tracks in particular carry over live (if they make it into a set-list). Straightline has officially made it onto my “Bands-To-See-Live” bucket list. The entire vibe of Vanishing Values is truly uplifting. You might get the urge to kickflip a 9-set with any of these tracks playing in the background. Or at least dust off that old GameCube sitting in your closet. Either way, you’re going to have a really awesome time while listening to this album (*Review by Catherine Dempsey ).
