What looks like a generic punk compilation (with newspaper-giveaway level artwork) is actually quite interesting. The tracklisting is a fairly comprehensive sampling of punk records released on the noted Lightning Records label. This includes a few stone classics - Martin & The Brownshirts, Cane (featuring a pre-Westworld Kirk Brandon), Elton Motello outrageous rewrite of "Ça Plane Pour Moi" as intense gay drama - and several intriguing oddities (Lloyd Grossman's (yes him!) foray into 'punk' to name just one). Lightning trod a fine line between punxploitation and the 'real' thing, whatever that is - check out The Nerves' 'critique' of the media 'TV Adverts' - pure UK '77 punk. This comp is easily as good as a post vol.4 Killed By Death, superior to Bloodstains - in fact, this package appears to be an expanded version of a KBD stye punk bootleg called 'Young, Raw Sounds', released in limited quantities on 'orrid red vinyl in the late 90's. I picked my copy of this up for 99p in my local Morrison's whilst shopping for groceries. Now look what it goes for!
