The LP was originally released way back in 1977 on Columbia/CBS Records in the UK. For nearly two years the only way for fans in the United States to acquire a copy was as an import as it wasn’t released in this country until 1979. When it was finally released domestically however, the track listing was drastically changed. Songs were removed and replaced with different songs. The only thing that remained the same was the cover art. The label felt that the album wasn’t “radio-friendly” enough so they replaced some of the original songs with newer b-sides and used a different version of  ”White Riot”. For many Americans who didn’t know about or have access to an import version, this was the only version of the album they knew or grew up with.

London Calling is the third album by English punk rock band The Clash, released 14 December 1979, on CBS Records in the UK and in January 1980 on Epic Records in the United States. The album represented a change in The Clash’s musical style, and featured elements of ska, pop, soul, rockabilly and reggae more prominently than in their previously released music. The album’s subject matter included unemployment, racial conflict, drug use, and the responsibilities of adulthood. The album’s cover was photographed by Pennie Smith and designed by Lowry. It was a homage to the design of Elvis Presley’s debut album.

Sandinista! is the fourth studio album by the English recording group The Clash. It was released on 12 December 1980 as a triple album containing 36 tracks, with 6 songs on each side. Anticipating the "world music" trend of the 1980s, it features funk, reggae, jazz, gospel, rockabilly, folk, dub, rhythm and blues, calypso, and rap. For the first time, the band's traditional songwriting credits of Strummer and Jones were replaced by a generic credit to the Clash, and the band cut the album royalties, in order to release the 3-LP at a low price. The title refers to the Sandinistas in Nicaragua, and its catalogue number, 'FSLN1', refers to the abbreviation of the party's Spanish name, Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional. Sandinista! was voted best album of the year in the Pazz & Jop critics poll in The Village Voice, and was ranked number 404 on the Rolling Stone list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" in 2003. Slant Magazine listed the album at number 85 on its "Best Albums of the 1980s" list in 2012.

Sometimes bands should just quit while they’re ahead. Weezer probably should’ve quit after The Green Album, Green Day should’ve stopped after American Idiot, and Snoop Dogg probably should’ve just recorded Doggystyle then hung up his afro pick for good, save the odd Dre collab or two. And The Clash, well, The Clash absolutely, definitely, without a doubt should’ve quit before they got to Cut The Crap. Some Clash documentaries would actually have you believe that this was the case. In 1982, following the recording of Combat Rock, drummer Topper Headon was given the boot due to a growing heroin dependency. The loss of a long time member placed further strain on the growing division between core members Joe Strummer and Mick Jones, eventually resulting in Jones’ dismissal in late 1983. And that’s where it should’ve ended. Combat Rock was by no means the band’s finest work – a title fairly decisively reserved for 1979′s London Calling – but it did contain two of the band’s best known singles: “Should I Stay Or Should I Go” (written and sung by Jones) and “Rock the Casbah” (written by Headon). A fitting swansong, then, for a band inarguably past their prime, but still capable of great singles and live performances. In hindsight, perhaps the album’s reputation as one of the worst of all time is somewhat overstated. There’s plenty on here that wouldn’t have been too out of place on Combat Rock, which, despite the great singles, wasn’t a particularly good album either. Perhaps it was the presence of strong singles on earlier albums – hell, even Sandanista (a possible future “Worst Album of All Time”) had “The Magnificent Seven” on it – that allowed people to overlook their shortcomings, Cut the Crap being the first to contain no standout tracks. Maybe if it had been marketed as a Joe Strummer solo album it might have fared better – not brilliant, but not too bad a start either. Hell, everyone put out shite in the eighties, right? When was the last time you wrote something as good as “Complete Control”?   (*Review by HERE  )

Formed by Mick Jones after he was ousted from THE CLASH, he continued to develop the sound THE CLASH had experimented with on huge three album: "Sandinista" using breaks, beats, dubs and the heavy use of electronic samples. The debut with the 1985 release "This is Big Audio Dynamite", followed in 1986 by "No. 10, Upping St." (which was co-produced by his former THE CLASH friend Joe Strummer). They supported U2 on their 1987 world tour. In 1988 "Tighten Up, Vol. 88" was released, followed in 1989 by "Megatop Phoenix". The lineup from 1984 until 1990 included Mick Jones (vocals and guitar), film director Don Letts (effects and vocals), Leo Williams (bass and vocals), Greg Roberts (drums and vocals) and Dan Donovan (keyboards). In 1995 "F-Punk" was recorded with Nick Hawkins, Gary Stonadge, Chris Kavanagh (ex-Sigue Sigue Sputnik), Andre Shapps and Michael Custance, and the band experimented a few turn to its roots closer to alternative rock, punk or even folk, despite here there also electronic effects and rhthms which can to remind musical styles such as: breakcore, leftfield or simply electro.

Aside from the fact That it pays tribute to The Clash -marking the entry of the one- time " only band that matters " into territory faq frequently reserved for the likes of Elton John and Led Zeppelin -there 's nothing out of the ordinary acerca Burning London . As tribute albums go , it's strictly by the book , que means it's got a mixture of the good , the salvageable , and the outright awful . In the first category , Cracker Contributes an amusing , countrified take on "White Riot , of" which nicely follows The Afghan Whigs ' soulful rendition of "Lost In The Supermarket , " probably the only spot on Burning London in Which you will not feel tempted to hit the skip button . Also worth Noting is Ice Cube and Mack 10's reworking , if that's the right word , of "Should I Stay Or Should I Go? " Not much Remains of original post , aside from the unforgettable riff and the song -opening yelp , but it's still a pretty good hip- hop track , even if it's difficult to suppose Joe Strummer asking , "Should I stay or bust me a ho ? " Another pair , The Indigo Girls , radically reworks " Clampdown . " It Particularly May not work well, but at Least the duo does something with the song , que can not be said of Most of the remaining Contributions, including 311 's "White Man In Hammersmith Palais, " The Mighty Mighty Bosstones ' " Rudie Can ' t Fail " and Third Eye Blind 's painfully faithful" Train In Vain. " Still , Contributions These never seem less than passable ; Silverchair 's rendition of "London 's Burning , " on the other hand , is every bit as bad as you'd expect , and reason to ponder again what " punk" means These Days . If nothing else , Burning London Demonstrates how powerful Strummer, Jones, and company Were as songwriters , and some of the proceeds do go to charity . But if you have $ 20 in your wallet , you're better off buying any Clash albums missing from your collection , then giving the change to a worthy cause (*Review written by  Keith Phipps )
