After some albums oriented to other musical styles and some "experiments" with genres such as: hard rock, metal, fussion or funk (late 80s decade until 1993), BAD BRAINS seem back to the roots of hardcore punk and to firm songs faster, shorter and agressive similar to its recordings. Despite this return to hardcore punk, the band make also here some reggae / dub songs as usual. Good work.

"God of love"

Tracks:  12
Time:  48 min.
Genre:  rock
Style:        Hardcore Reggae

"God of Love" is the sixth full-length studio album by the hardcore punk pioneers Bad Brains. It is the first Bad Brains album since 1989 with the band's original lineup. It was released in 1995 on Maverick Records, after the band was signed to the label by Madonna. The release contains more reggae than any other Bad Brains album, although the heavy title track received video airplay on MTV. Backed by huge promotion from the label and an opening slot on the Beastie Boys Ill Communication tour, the band fell apart as the volatile singer, H.R., was arrested in several instances involving beating a skinhead, a security guard, and the band's manager in separate incidents throughout the tour. The band missed a performance at Madison Square Garden with Beastie Boys due to H.R.'s behavior, leading to yet another breakup. The band later reunited in 1997. This album has been out of print since 2002, but is being re-released on record store day April 16, 2011, as nonly 2,000 copies along with a 7".

BAD BRAINS is an american hardcore punk band formed in Washington DC in 1977. They are widely regarded as among the pioneers of hardcore punk. though the band's members objected to this term to describe their music. They are also an adept reggae and dub band, while later recordings featured elements of other genres like funk, heavy metal, hip hop and soul. BAD BRAINS are followers of the Rastafari movement. Originally formed as a jazz fusion ensemble under the name "Mind Power".  Bad Brains developed a very fast and intense punk-rock sound which came to be labeled "hardcore", and was often played faster and more emphatically than the music of many of their peers. The unique factor of the band's music was the fact that they played more complex rhythms than other hardcore punk bands, also adapting non-punk style guitar riffs and solos into their songs.  Personally I think Bad Brains are the best U.S. hardcore punk band of the early '80s. Both musically, as regards points, have much higher quality than the pioneers of the genre such assumptions: Minor Threat, Black Flag or MDC. Maybe just Dead Kennedys to beat Bad Brains. This album "Rise", for example, pass unnoticed by most people and I think is very original, creative and has a great quality level. Not just for the good reggae / punk mix of the band, but also to incorporate some funk, fussion and alternative rock influences in its music.

"I against I"

After Seeing how much everyone enjoyed my "Rock For Light" review, I thought it only fair That Was And people give you what you desire. Another Bad Brains' review from myself. This time I thought I'd Tackle the band's 1986 album, I Against I.  Was it three years since the release of Rock For Light, and Had a lot of things changed. Most notably the band's music. Gone are the days of Their hardcore punk. Instead, we are left with a handful of midtempo songs the band room to give That Strut Their Stuff. It's Slower yes, the goal They wielded power in Their debut is still there. It Starts off with "Intro," just a little jam. After That comes the title track and "House Of Suffering," arguably the band's best two songs. As of great songs are they, They Seem a bit dry, no reverb. This sucks some intensity out of Them. Also, where "I Against I" HR pulls Rock For Light and overdoes His "singing." After hearing the version on the Omega Sessions EP, I'm not very happy with the version on th om prison. Interesting if not enjoyable.  HR is not the only thing going on here, the rest of the band is the must wheres of my interest is. They're Tearing up the place with tight and funky playing. Guitarist Dr. Know is all over the place where His solos, and the rhythm section of Darryl Jenifer and Earl Hudson lock into a seamless, powerful groove. One could I argue this album That is the precursor metal to funk. There is not too much else you could I call this stuff.  For once the production is damn near perfect, give thanks to Ric Ocasek not present bling. The bass is loud and proud, as are the drums. Hell, everything is wonderfully mixed in. The only thing That Bothers me Is that the first two songs, not counting "Intro" are too dry.  This is Bad Brains' masterpiece. As much as theire kicked ass hardcore stuff, this album shows Them in sheet form. It's diverse, powerful, and damn good. The minor shortcomings on this album, HR Mainly bad delivery on "I Against I" do not hurt the overall album. In retrospect, this dull review should not lead you to believe this is a dull album, Because it's not. It's the opposite, it's a classic and is Easily in the ranks of other legendary rock albums, Such as Back In Black and Are You Experienced? (*NOTE = this review was written by Smooth_BM ).

BAD BRAINS is the first full-length studio album recorded by BAD BRAINS. It was originally released on cassette only, but has since been re-released by ROIR on both CD and vinyl. When the album was recorded in 1981 and released finally in 1982, fans and critics alike were stunned to learn that the musicians behind this album – one of the fastest albums of all time upon its release – were African-American Rastafarians who also were skilled at reggae. The album was a crucial step in the formation of hardcore punk and the eventual fusion of hard rock and reggae adopted later by bands like Sublime, Fishbone, and 311. Many of the album's tracks were re-recorded for their 1983 follow-up, "Rock for Light". "Rock for Light" did not contain re-recordings of "Don't Need It", "The Regulator", "Jah Calling", "Leaving Babylon", "Pay to Cum", "I Luv Jah" and "Intro". In-Effect Records released a CD version with the same track listing titled "Attitude" The ROIR Sessions in 1991. We are in front of an Essential album of the whole hardcore punk history. A true Masterpiece which can to sound from fast and agressive hardcore to extreme slow reggae and even dub. There is no doubt the little Washington DC scene has given us very good gems
