THE EX are a rock band from the Netherlands that formed in 1979 at the height of the original punk explosion. Initially known as an anarcho-punk band similar to CRASS, they have since released over 20 full length albums of musical experiments and numerous collaborations blending punk rock and industrial, tribal, free jazz with styles of folk music from all over the world. First recordings keep more punk touch in the whole of the albums, but late 80s and early 90s the band was influenced by noise-rock bands like Sonic Youth.

Dutch band, formed in 1979 in Amsterdam. Initially an anarcho-punk band but over the years they incorporated many different musical styles such as jazz, noise, free improvisation, ethnic/world music. Playing an hybrid of punk to advance their liberal socialist agenda (serving as the rough equivalent of a Dutch Crass), the Ex put out reams of records and propaganda during the '80s - each released on a different Dutch label -- but in the '90s began to embrace industrial forms of percussion and improvisation more in line with Einstürzende Neubauten and Test Dept. After 35 years, more than 25 albums and around 1800 performances the band continues to work as they did in when they began, completely independent of record companies, managers or roadies.
