Last year, the news of a band like The Capaces went through celebrating its 20th Anniversary and closing a cycle in its career by publishing the album that I will review a little below, but this pandemic delayed everything and they have had their new 'barrel' artifact until in November we began to enjoy the first single and on the last day of January of this year they gave a presentation concert (+ interview) of the album (without an audience obviously) at the Stonebox studios in Barcelona. You just had to wait a little longer to find out what these punk'n'roll kaffers have up to...

On February 24th, the longed-for moment arrived and I didn't want to take longer than necessary to tell you about her latest album, Zoetrope (2021). If anyone thought that the people of Barcelona were going to lower their guard in these last three years they were more than wrong, the killing machine is still adjusted and greased to the millimeter to sever limbs and crush skulls with ten songs of a real heart attack. Zoetrope is conceived as a conceptual work of circular conception using the iconic 'Zootrope' as a symbol of the cycle of life and death, as a metaphor that everything is born but everything also dies, perhaps, in the case of the band in particular, it is a perfect way to close that cycle that the band feels as 'closed' (the songs were composed and recorded in 2019) in their career waiting to undertake new challenges ...

The seventh album by The Capaces opens, as is customary in them since their previous album, Rawness, with a sophisticated piano 'intro', “Daedalum”, calm and collected as if it were the calm before the fucking storm. . Yes, The Capaces are 'capable' of showing great sensitivity when they want to. "The Wheel Of Life" is divided into two parts; the first one continues to warm up little by little with an instrumental halfway between the Turbonegro of Apocalypse Dudes and a certain Spaguetti Western atmosphere, the second part, now yes, hostilities rush with a supine punch to our eardrums, very 'hellaca' he and the band fuming and at full blast. “Insight” is not daunted at all, a whiplash that is introduced with Beddy's brutal pounding and developed with flamboyant guitar arms that refer to Dave Wyndorf's “Powertrip”. Brutal. “Primitive” is here, an accurate first single with that genuine and unique mix of speed rock'n'roll. It is the fucking anthem of this album, I have it but that is very clear, Martillo and the band undertake the execution of the song in a kamikaze way, with pride, passion and rocking to the fucking human limit.

“Burning The Days” is the most ‘relaxed’ track, it slows down a bit in speed but not in attitude giving way to one of the clear intentions of the tracklist and that is none other than billing their most Rock'N’Roll album. Tie up the males because a triad of punk'n'roll songs is coming, not suitable for the faint of heart, opening with the feral “The Fall” with the Fontana literally leaving his vocal chords, go FIERA !, it is followed by the also virulent speed rock / street punk of “Bleack Shores” with an absolutely crushing drums that leaves us almost exhausted until we reach another devastating song, “On My Way”, a very rock'n'roler cut in its skeleton but executed with the volume at the fucking 11. “The Devil's Wheel ”is closing the circle, begins quietly in the first bars to slap you mercilessly over and over again, an explosive song and, again, with a lot of basic rock'n'roll in its grooves, yes, played by the Fucking devil with a final screaming from Hammer that gives one 'goose bumps', I swear !!! Now, Zoetrope closes in an instrumental way with “Solstice” returning again to the Wild West in a composition clearly indebted to Morricone's westerns and that stops the circular and hypnotizing device of the Zootrope. The Capaces from Barcelona are probably one of Europe's most exceptional and outstanding punk bands. Founded in 1999, they are playing their furious mix of punk, hardcore and rock'n'roll with for more than 20 years now. Female fronted band who can to remind old bands such as:  Dead Boys, Johnny Thunders or Sonny Vincent, or more actual bands such as: Turbonegro, Zeke, Dwarves or Social Distortion, to mention just a few ones. More than music, their singer ("Martillo") is also an exceptional illustrator (comix, designs, covers, etc.), which can to see her art HERE .
