It is with great enthusiasm that we announce the premiere of the project “Tocando la Polla”, a tribute album to one of the most iconic and enduring bands of punk in Spanish, La Polla Records. This initiative is born from the admiration and respect that the generation of the late 80s and 90s has maintained for the timeless songs of La Polla Records. This band has left an indelible mark on the world of punk, both on the music scene and on its loyal audience.

The idea behind “Tocando la Polla” began with a deep respect for the influence of La Polla Records on punk music in Spanish. The necessary permits were sought and a dialogue was established with the band to explain this tribute project. The band gave their approval and this exciting journey began.

The project began to take shape in 2022, with a call to bands from different regions of Chile. Cau Cau Records, known for its commitment to regional bands, allocated 40% of the participants to talented bands from regions, from Tocopilla to Puerto Montt, passing through Antofagasta, Iquique, Coquimbo, La Serena, Valparaíso, Santiago, Melipilla, Pichilemu , Valdivia, La Unión, Puerto Montt, Los Ángeles and Chillán.

The result is an album that covers 25 songs, highlighting the musical and geographical diversity of Chile. They include emerging bands and bands already established in the scene such as Durango, Miguelitos, TAM and others such as Los KK URBANA, who, after more than 30 years without playing, decided to join this production.

The album art, which is inspired by the iconic “Salve” album cover, is the creation of Carlos Carvajal, an illustrator from Coquimbo who previously worked on the cover of Los Peores de Chile's live album. The design and art of the album were in charge of the vocalist and guitarist of Operación Sandwich, a trusted collaborator at the label, the idea was to take the iconic cover of the Salve album and “chilenize”, making a play on words with the name of “Touch the dick (records)” and Priest Hasbun representing a church stained by sexual abuse.

The philosophy of this project is that "less is more", and the result is minimalist art that pays tribute to the essence of La Polla Records. Although the recording process took place in different studios, mastering was carried out at Madriguera Records, ensuring an exceptional sound that captures the essence of the original songs.

“Tocando la Polla” is a tribute to La Polla Records that celebrates their legacy and impact on punk music in Spanish. This album is a testament to the diversity and talent of Chilean bands and a sign of the lasting importance of La Polla Records in musical culture.

In addition, the physical album will be distributed by Cau Cau Records throughout the country and in others such as Argentina, Spain and Peru.

La Polla Records is an original punk band from Agurain, an small village from Basque Country (Spain). Active from 1979 to 2003 and since 2019, it is considered one of the greatest references of punk rock in spanish and one of the most important in the history of rock in Spain and South America. Shortly after, in 1984 they released a more complete album of nineteen songs called "Salve". In their lyrics they make strong criticisms against: religion, nationalism, fascism, capitalism, militarism, consumerism and related to atheism, internationalism, social issues, politics, alienation, and other factors of society, something that would characterize their entire career. During the 2002 tour, Fernando Murua died on September 3, because of a heart attack. LPR canceled all their concerts and tours. After the loss of Fernando, they recruited the drummer Tripi and released their last album, as its title indicates: "The last one of the Polla", putting an end to twenty-four years of career in 2003. In 2019 the band come back and recorded a new full lengh album.

Big effort to get an  smart and clean, soft and clear, more powerful musical arrangements, taking the guitars much more than before. High quality sound and excellent producion. The battery is also more present. The sound curtain becomes a fundamental protagonist, even over the letters. The beginning, with "Monopoly" is representative of it, with the fast pace that some galloping guitars give him. The title of the song comes to mind because of the high-level goings-on to which it refers. A similar complaint is made in "The eye sees you", which also powerful sound, is responsible for criticizing the omnipresent presence of video cameras that control us. Surprise how, ten years after its debut, La Polla Records are able to continue making records of such intensity. This disc was the last one sent under the name of "La Polla Records", because in 1991 a judicial procedure had begun against the band, on the part of an ex-sound technician. Finally, the court ruling went against the band, and it was forbidden to continue using that name, due to the term "Records", which in English is used for record companies. Therefore, from the following works the group was simply called "La Polla".

understood, underrated and forgot. Actually this was not a serious and official album, but just some kind of "divertimento" with jokes, parodies and a lot of irony. It seems that the original idea was to publish it as an album of a b-side project called "Los Jubilados", with the five original members plus several musicians as collaborations to record many different instruments such as: banjo, flute, trumpet, sax, violin, keyboards, piano, electronic drums and other exotic sounds and effects. Even vocals was not just Evaristo (singer) but also the rest of the band plus a female voice "in off". La Polla Records declared in an interview that the goal of this album was just "to celebrate" the recent fall of the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Union collapse. It was did just in some months and recorded in june 1990. Finally the record label "Oihuka" decided to issued as an official album on CD and LP format, plus an original and interessant booklet full of comix by popular spanish artist "Carlos Azagra". None of these songs will be played neither on live concerts, nor in another album. The result was frankly bad and both, audience and medias, didn't like it at all. Disappointment and complete commercial failure then, in 1990. But with the pass of the years it seems the album has been more accepted.

Written, recorded and mixed during 1989, but finally issued one year later, in 1990,  through record label "Oihuka". Well known producer Jean Pochas did this work on the "Elkar" studio next to artwork did by visual artist Manolo Gil . The cover, realized by Manolo Gil on idea of the own group, keeps an undeniable similarity with the one of "Beggars Banquet" (Decca, 1968) of The Rolling Stones of 1968. On this occasion the production of the album seems to have a guitar sound perhaps more powerful than other times. At times they even seem like arrangements of a heavy metal or hard rock band. A lot of strong guitars, with a slower tempo and longer songs than ever.

It is considered their only one album with a mono-theme, given that all songs have titles referring to the animal world. In an interview with Evaristo in May 2010, he affirmed that the name of the album and its concept are inspired by the book "the name of the rose", by Umberto Eco. The song "The ostrich", according to an urban myth, is a song dedicated to the group Eskorbuto, due to an incident in which the group stole a guitar in a 1985 recital, where they had played together. According to this legend, Eskorbuto would have dedicated to them the song "cuidado", which came out on their album "anti todo" de 1986. What is certain that song "el aveztruz" is actually a cover of the song "first time" of the british punk band The Boys. At date this was their best album related to its high quality sound and good production, which was charged Mariño Goñi.

"no somos nada"

In 1986 the group decided to make their third album totally according to "do it yourself" ethics. So the band founded their own label "Txata records" and edited, produced, recorded and mixed "no somos nada" theyselves in "Du Manoir" studios. The result was not satisfactory and it was delayed due to a series of inconveniences that occurred during the rest of the year, hence this LP went through three different phases and ended up being edited in 1987 through record label "Oihuka". The artist Santi Orue was charged to design the artwork (cover, back and booklet), with also the collaborations of: Carlos (RiP), Natxo (Cicatriz) and Xose Aviles (Dixebra). Strongly political lyrics with some kind of fast punk, direct, simple and very short twenty one songs. Despite then, they were not good musicians and this poor quality sound, "no somos nada" become in one of the best, but the best, La Polla Records album.
